“Now here, you see, it takes all the running you can do to keep in the same place.” That's the Red Queen, talking to Alice, and it's one of those lines that sounds like a riddle until one day it doesn't — it just sounds like your week.
There's a bit of physics hiding in that fairy tale, actually. Left alone, everything drifts toward disorder — rooms get messy, muscles get stiff, systems drift out of tune. Keeping anything in good order takes a constant, quiet input of energy. Not once. Continuously. That's true of a garden, a marriage, a set of teeth, and — as it turns out — a dental practice.
Running Just To Stand Still
For a while there, the world was telling us to slow down. Fewer hours, softer goals, permission to rest. It was a good message and, if we're honest, a welcome one. But somewhere in the last couple of years the ground shifted again, and a lot of us have felt it: it now takes noticeably more effort just to hold your position — in a career, in a practice, in a family's routine — than it used to.
What about progress, though? What about actually moving forward? That means we need to move twice as fast.
We feel this at Winelands Dentistry too. Two practices, a growing team, more patients trusting us with their care every month — none of that stays still on its own. It takes deliberate, ongoing effort from everyone here to make sure that growth never comes at the cost of the calm, unhurried experience we want you to have in the chair.
So We Laced Up
Which is really what this update is about. A few changes have landed at Winelands Dentistry recently, all in service of that same goal — staying exactly as gentle and as calm as we've always tried to be, even as we grow:
- Dr Caitlin Bradford has joined our Somerset West practice, bringing a warm, family-first approach to general and paediatric dentistry.
- Our Somerset West rooms are getting a few quiet upgrades, so the space keeps pace with the care we provide in it.
- Shannon Smoog has joined the front desk — usually the first calm voice you'll hear when you call us.
- Dr Tilana Swartz continues her orthodontic training, adding another layer of expertise under one roof.
None of this is progress for its own sake. It's the running required just to keep the practice feeling the way it always has — gentle, calm, professional — while it grows around you. Thank you, as always, for trusting us with your smiles. It's the reason we keep lacing up.
